Sidekicks & Sidequests

Building a world, one character at a time.

Jakuhlin

  1. This is a character that Justin K. randomly generated with my tables.
  2. What is this character’s name? - Jakuhlin
  3. What is their ancestry (i.e. human, elf, dwarf, halfling, etc)? - Goblin
  4. What is your job or role (i.e. farmer, hierling/mercenary, shopowner, bandit, etc)? - Blacksmith
  5. How old are you? - Young Adult
  6. Describe your physical appearance. - She's fairly well built, swinging her hammer all day. Covered in soot, she has darker green/gray skin. Jakuhlin has a pretty honest face, she looks friendlier, but she doesn't spend time on her appearance (not attractive). Has a flatter nose and big ears.
  7. Describe yourself with 3 adjectives. - Apologetic, Organized, Confident/Defiant
  8. What is a valuable item/piece of lore/secret that this character possesses? Or do they value an ideal/concept or particular person (i.e. family member, guild member, honor, justice, love etc.) - Nature. Jakuhlin has a soft spot for animals, which she keeps on her person (like squirrels in her pockets) and cares for within her shop. She started her career with muleshoes and horseshoes.
  9. What is a particular quest you would be willing to recruit or hire the player characters to go do? - Search for and retrieve a rare book on metallurgy from an evil orc blacksmith. Having this book would allow her to be able to upgrade her skills in order to make master or magical weapons.
  10. What would be their reward for succeeding? - She will upgrade a piece of equipment (magical) for a member of the party or silver one of their weapons.
  11. What would be the consequence of failure or refusing the call? - Jakuhlin will charge more for her services. The party doesn't take advantage of upgrading their merchants. Failing to remove the book from the posession of the orcs (or whoever) means that the enemy will continue to combat the party with upgraded weapons and equipment.

Optional Questions - not required

  • What are the goals and motivations of your character? - Jakuhlin wants to excel at her craft. She wants to prove the naysayers wrong! She wants to be the best blacksmith she can be.
  • How do these affect your general personality? - She's used to people trying to cheat her or not pay her a fair price. As a result of the negativity and her status in society, her shop is her safe haven, so she is secluded from society. This also makes her apologetic.
  • How do you normally interact with your family/friends/peers? With your enemies/rivals? With people who work for you/report to you? With player characters? - It depends if Jakuhlin is in her safe spot or not, this is what swings the apologetic vs. confident/defiant attittudes. Concise in her wording, doesn't like talking for a long time. She has to maintain an air of professionalism, since people will jump on the opportunity to discredit her based on any promises or agreements not kept.
  • Do you have a particular accent or language? Any idiosyncrasies in how you act and speak? - Jakulin speaks like a typical, high pitched, screechy voice. She's always apologizing, regardless if you tell her not to. She likes to stand in a power pose, so her body language doesn't also match her spoken words.
  • What impact have you made on the world? How have you shaped the local area? - There are a lot of little goblins from her tribe who look up to Jakuhlin, and seeing how she is able to survive and succeed in civilization without being killed on sight. Other blacksmiths have taken notice of her and her work, and acknowledging that Jakuhlin is a capable blacksmith. Perhaps some professional rivalries. She's made a reputation for herself among the other merchants and guilds within the town, and she's made some nice and viable equipment for other adventurers in the world.
  • Do you have any current problems that prevent you from being a bigger player on the stage? - Jakuhlin needs more training and knowledge in order to improve her smithing abilities and perhaps moving onto bigger and better towns and cities. With her needing to care for and tend to the animals in her care, she uses this as an excuse to not push herself further beyond the safety of her shop.
