- This is a character that Daniel Silver is bringing to us is from his home games. He is re-purposed from a Masks campaign.
- What is this character’s name? - He goes by the nom de guerre, "The Collector". His actual name is Reginald Woodworth II.
- What is their ancestry (i.e. human, elf, dwarf, halfling, etc)? - In Daniel's game, he was human, however, he could actually work as a number of different fantasy ancestries as well.
- What is your job or role (i.e. farmer, hierling/mercenary, shopowner, bandit, etc)? - His outward appearance is that of landed gentry. His secret identity is "The Collector", who is a legendary gentleman thief who seeks the rarest items for his private collection.
- How old are you? - 70s as a human. For a dwarf or elf or halfling, a similar age, but the idea is that he is older in his life cycle.
- Describe your physical appearance. - An older gray-haired gentleman. Fine suits or robes of landed gentry, looking proper and dressed up. He has a fine cane, topped with a large diamond or gem.
- Describe yourself with 3 adjectives. - Charismatic, Honorable, Determined.
- What is a valuable item/piece of lore/secret that this character possesses? Or do they value an ideal/concept or particular person (i.e. family member, guild member, honor, justice, love etc.) - He lives by the code of honor. He's really built up a network of informants and suppliers who help him to pull off these amazing capers with equipment and intelligence. The cane with the diamond/gem in it (in the Masks game) had different gadgets built into it, but in a fantasy setting, the cane could serve as a prominent magic item of the character!
- What is a particular quest you would be willing to recruit or hire the player characters to go do? - The Collector would be willing to team up with the party to go on a heist to take down a BBEG/villain/overlord/etc in exchange for some rare piece in their collection that he would get to keep as payment for his work/resources being used to pull off this job.
- What would be their reward for succeeding? - Because of the vast network and resources available to The Collector, the reward is that you are able to gain entrance to the otherwise impenetrable base/stronghold/vault/etc. that you needed access to, provided that The Collector gets their specific item that they came along the adventure for.
- What would be the consequence of failure or refusing the call? - Part of his code is you don't go back on a deal; if you attempt to back-pedal, swindle, or renege on the terms, The Collector will make your lives miserable and you will be living with some pretty dire consequences. If they refuse a deal with him at all, The Collector is still going to go on the heist/break-in/etc. that the players are planning on doing -- he won't necessarily care if the players become "collateral damage" or a "useful distraction" while he is acquiring the specific item he is after. He is willing to throw your characters under the bus now if it means he gets the item of his hunt!
Optional Questions - not required
- What are the goals and motivations of your character? - He just really likes collecting things. He wants to have the biggest collection that is impressive. He keeps his code of honor and that is what motivates him.
- How do these affect your general personality? - He is always very generous to the players, giving them a fair shot, helping them to get them specific items and such. He has a very refined sense of fair play and he likes making things interesting.
- How do you normally interact with your family/friends/peers? With your enemies/rivals? With people who work for you/report to you? With player characters? - He is nuanced with how he speaks to different groups of people.
- Do you have a particular accent or language? Any idiosyncrasies in how you act and speak? - In the Masks campaign, he was from England, so he had a British accent. But it's not required that he has this kind of accent -- do whatever suits The Collector for your game!
- What impact have you made on the world? How have you shaped the local area? - In the Masks campaign, his impact was more felt by the players. In a D&D game, it stands to reason that his public persona would be someone important being from nobility, but certainly the rumors, gossip, and legends surrounding "The Collector" should be varied and speak to the code of honor and the impressive feats of daring in regards to these heists and capers! Certainly people must wonder what exactly is in his collection...
- Do you have any current problems that prevent you from being a bigger player on the stage? - He is pretty happy with how his life has turned out. His big regret in life is that he would have liked to have spent more time with his family. Otherwise, he's not trying to become a crime boss. He just wants to be the best!
